Top 5 Restaurants in Walking/Delivery Distance of Fordham (Spoiler: only one is on Arthur)

September 30,2020 | By M. Allen

Whether you’re a Fordham student who just made the switch to off-campus living or a lifelong NYC resident looking for a change, the Belmont Neighborhood is a vibrant gem of the North Bronx. Punctuated by shopping, the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Botanical Gardens, Belmont also boasts delicious food from a myriad of cuisines. Let's take a look at where you should consider for your next (covid-friendly) dining adventure!

Ajo y Oregano

Ajo y Oregano is a lively, charming lunch and dinner spot on Crescent Ave just south of Fordham University. Featuring vibrant Dominican cuisine. This colorful cafe is the perfect place for a delicious lunch, especially if you’re looking for a change in pace! Two top menu items? First, try the Chimi Tostones Sliders with beef or chicken. Perfectly fried meat and a slice of fried cheese on a sandwich of crispy and flavorful tostones, all topped with a delicious garlic sauce and fresh pico de gallo. Next, order mofonguitos, a wonderful cup of mashed and seasoned plantain, delicious beef or chicken, cheese, pico de gallo and pink sauce. You cannot go wrong with this delightful spot!

Sake II

If sushi and hibachi are your gastro-go to’s, look no further than the Belmont

favorite Sake II. Featuring impeccable specialty rolls, flavorful hibachi, and delectable bubble tea, Sake II also offers a Fordham student discount when you order delivery through their website. Our two favorites are the Sake II roll and the Pink Lady roll. Make sure to try the tempura sweet potato as your free appetizer if you’re a Fordham student ordering over $30!

Inwood Bagels

If you’re looking for a lazy morning delivery or a nice walk to wake up, let us offer you Inwood Bagels. While *technically* in Manhattan, Inwood is a 30 minute walk West along Fordham road, and this adorable bagel shop offers a wide variety of bagels and spreads, including tofu-based “cream cheese.” Some of our favorites include the veggie tofu cream cheese on an egg-everything bagel and the coffee cake muffin!

Fiasco

If we are talking about food around the Fordham area, you cannot ignore Arthur Avenue. Without a doubt, Fiasco is the best restaurant on Arthur. Offering more authentic Italian food with thoughtful, seasonal preparation and pairings, Fiasco never disappoints and always offers a fresh new look at what American Italian food can be. Because their menu changes seasonally, they have just added a wonderful selection of Autumn flavors. One of these is the Butternut Squash and Shredded Short Rib Risotto; the perfect dish for a chilly fall night! As for regular season menu items, a trip to Fiasco is not complete without sharing a Pane in Carrozza with your table. This deliciously cheesy and mildly sweet grilled mozzarella cheese sandwich is breaded and fried (yup, you heard that right) and served with a cup of spicy honey and a side of marinara sauce. Trust the process and dip your bite in both!

Tana Thai

A bit further than the first four picks, Tana makes it onto this list because their delivery is fast and reliable. If your comfort food is Pad Thai or Pad See Ew and you live in Belmont, look no further than Tana Thai! Featuring all of the favorites of American Thai cuisine, Tana is consistently delicious and affordable. Our top recs are the Pad Thai with Tofu and the Drunken noodles with beef.  A Perfect lunch if you’re looking for a quick delivery, and make sure to top it off with a Thai Iced Coffee or a Taro Bubble Tea!
